MoveOn targets Tiahrt

Once again MoveOn has targeted Rep. Todd Tiahrt for his atrocious stands on the issues. This one is to get Tiahrt to sign onto the Iraq Accountability Act, which seems unlikely since Tiahrt is such a suck up to President George Bush and the far right of the Republican Party.

Dear MoveOn member,

Yesterday you saw the results of our poll—85 percent of MoveOn members want to work to pass Speaker Pelosi's plan for Iraq. Today, we have to get to work. This vote is going to be incredibly close and it'll be one of the most important ones of the year. Every member of Congress should hear from their constituents today.
The critical piece of this plan is that it sets a timeline for withdrawing our troops from Iraq—it sets a date certain to end the war. President Bush doesn't want to set a deadline to exit Iraq1—his policy would strand our troops in the middle of what has become a religious civil war.
Can you call Rep. Tiahrt and ask him to support the Iraq Accountability Act to set a date certain to bring our troops home?
Congressman Todd Tiahrt
Phone: 202-225-6216
Then please click below to let us know that you called:
http://political.moveon.org/call?tg=FHKS_04&cp_id=468&id=10050-3189845-rfs9H9&t=2
When you call, tell the person who answers that you don't support the President's position of endless war. Our troops are stuck in a civil war and it's time to set a date and bring them home. Congress must rein in the president on his failed policy in Iraq.
By the way, you may have heard about a possible "Lee Amendment" that would end the war on an even shorter timetable. So far, the amendment hasn't been offered—there won't be a vote on it—but if it is, we'll encourage everyone to vote for it. And you can mention on your call that you want Rep. Tiahrt to support anything that strengthens the Iraq Accountability Act, too.
Over the last weeks, progressive members of Congress worked to make this bill a real step forward. And they succeeded, for the first time, in getting a bill with a timetable that would end the war in Iraq. It doesn't go as far as we'd like—this will be a long fight. But it's a first step toward bringing the troops home.
Please call Rep. Tiahrt today.
Thanks for all you do.

MoveOn wants Tiahrt to oppose escalating the war.

Dear MoveOn member,
The fight to end the war quickly is at a precarious point and we need your help.
Progressives in Congress are pushing for a swift, responsible exit that brings the troops home by the end of 2007. But Dick Cheney and his allies in Congress are on an all-out assault—saying that Democrats are "undermining the troops" by trying to end the war.1 Avoiding a date certain to end this war is supporting a war without end.
Can you call Rep. Tiahrt and tell him that you don't want an endless war? We need to let him know his constituents want to support our troops by bringing them home safely this year. Here is the number:
Congressman Todd Tiahrt
Phone: 202-225-6216
After you call, please report it here so we know how many calls they've received:
http://political.moveon.org/call?tg=FHKS_04&cp_id=463&id=10010-3189845-uZ_GTn&t=3
It just takes a few minutes, but if we all work together, we can take a big step toward ending the war.
Thanks for all you do,

Tiahrt to police campaign shenanigans

Here is the perfect case of hiring a fox to guard a hen-house. According to the following story a house task force has picked one of the most corrupted politicians in the history of Kansas and appointed him to look over any wrong doing during political campaigns.

According The Wichita Eagle (http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog/):

Tiahrt to House lawmakers: Police thyselves
Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, who was appointed in January to a House task force to study whether an independent ethics panel is needed, is strongly opposed to the idea, saying that such a panel could be manipulated for partisan purposes, according to the Hill.
“Should we let MoveOn.org decide who to investigate?” Tiahrt asked. He went on say that wrongdoers are being caught and sentenced. “The system is working,” he declared.

This is the same man who took in $1,099,563 Total Receipts for the 2005-2006 election and only spent $1,024,914, leaving him a hefty surplus to pocket. This is the same man who takes his family to Hawaii and Europe for vacations at the taxpayers expense. This is the same Tiahrt who took in $4,000 for former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and then tried to defend him when he was caught using dishonest fund raising practices.
So we can all sit back and laugh as congress puts its most corrupted politicians to police their ethics. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t our money they are steeling.

Tiahrt said he loves God –does he mean Jesus or money?

They should put Jesus on the various $ bills of various denominations. That way people, such as Rep. Todd Tiahrt can say they have faith in Jesus, because he’s right there on the hundred dollar bill. And since congressmen such as Tiahrt work hard to line their pockets with money they earn doing favors for wealthy businessmen, they would have less a problem with their moral scruples. What would Jesus do? He’d be on our money, what could he do?

From The Wichita Eagle, Feb. 16, 2007:

Stay true to yourself and your faith
BY REP. TODD TIAHRT
“My wife, Vicki, and I recently previewed the new film "Amazing Grace," which recounts the heroic story of William Wilberforce and his successful quest as a member of Parliament to abolish the transatlantic slave trade in 1807. This great man was a statesman, an avowed and practicing Christian, and a champion on behalf of the underprivileged.
Early on, Wilberforce wrestled with whether he should pursue a calling from God or serve as a driving force in the House of Commons. He successfully accomplished both.
The story of Wilberforce sends a powerful message of staying true to yourself and to your faith. Wilberforce was an example of faith in action, modeling that we do not have to abandon our values to be effective in our jobs -- whether as a business owner, nurse, mechanic, working mom or member of Congress.
We must stand up for our beliefs and fight passionately for our causes. We must not betray our values or our faith, and never cease to help those in need.
This film is well-timed with the 200th anniversary of the 1807 abolition of the U.K. and U.S. slave trade. Our country needs to capture the potential for a movement, as one poet described Wilberforce's efforts to lead his nation into "the better hour."
The John Templeton Foundation funded a forthcoming television documentary called "The Better Hour: William Wilberforce, a Man of Character Who Changed the World," and will offer cash prizes for a new Better Hour national essay contest for youths -- encouraging each to engage in solving a problem he identifies. These efforts can build momentum and engage communities to find new ways to influence our culture.
In addition, millions of people around the world will lift their voices together to sing "Amazing Grace." The movie's organizers are asking church congregations to sing the timeless hymn this Sunday, before the film's wide release on Feb. 23.
I am honored each day to be your voice in the U.S. House of Representatives and will work to stand faithfully for what is right. Wilberforce championed his cause against the slave trade for 20 years before Parliament voted to abolish the trade. Wilberforce is an inspiration for us to seek the will of God and not flag in doing what is right. Together, we can work to bring "the better hour" to our nation and future generations.”

By the Way Mr. Tiahrt, slavery is already abolished and no one is planning to bring it back (except a few kooks as in the KKK). “Amazing Grace" may be a good movie, but watching it won’t make you a good representative.

Tiahrt selected by Republicans to destroy environment

Rep. Todd Tiahrt has recently been selected to the committee for budgeting of the Environmental protection Agency. That would be like picking a Ku Klux Klan member to head the NAACP. Tiahrt’s voting record on the environment has been rated as being one of the lowest in congress. The League of Conservation Voters tracks congressional votes into 18 categories and Tiahrt rated a 0 out of all 18.
Clearly this man has no business having anything to do with the environment.

Tiahrt is promoted to a more influential idiot

What do you do when you lose control of congress because the people finally realize you’re a political party of idiots? You promote the biggest idiots. That’s what is happening to Kansas’ most ignorant and corrupt politician, Rep. Todd Tiahrt. He won his election due to lack of any real opposition, unlike Attorney General Phill Kline who lost to a man with actual attorney credentials. The same band of idiots has help Tiahrt move will now be ranking member of the House Appropriation Committee’s sub-committee on the interior and environment, among other things.
Tiahrt on the environment? That’s like putting a Ku Klux Klansman on a committee to honor Martin Luther King.
According to The Wichita Eagle this will give Tiahrt a “greater influence in the US House.”

Who would put a clown like this in such an important office?

Want to die in Iraq?

Yes we still have Rep. Todd Tiahrt, now Kansas’ number one idiot in the US Congress, although it’s becoming a toss up between him and Senator Sam Brownback.

Tiahrt is behind an effort to send Kansas Air National Guardsmen to Iraq and Afghanistan. I thought he was supposed to represent the best interest of his constituents, not get them killed in a useless war that we never needed. All of President George Bush’s advisors and the Pentagon tell him not to send a lot more troops, but Tiahrt listens to the idiot and not the experts.

So if your young and in the National Guard, get read for the opportunity to die for nothing. And thank Tiahrt for that opportunity.

Is Tiahrt next?

Republicans

It must be getting lonely for poor ol’ Rep Todd Tiahrt, being the only far-right extremist to win his election victory. He won mainly because local democrats refused to give any support, of any kind, to his opponent, Garth McGuinn (Earlier I reported Alan Bjerga as his opponent. Either my information was wrong or Garth McGuinn decided to take over and run instead of Alan Bjerga. If the Dems had given this guy some money, we all would have noticed his name). They thought he couldn’t win so the Democrats just handed the seat over to Tiahrt. The Wichita Eagle bragged, before the election, that he has been a very influential representative for the country and for Kansas. He’s been on many committees. That should change soon. With the Democrats running the US House, surely they will put someone qualified on all those committees and return Tiahrt where he belongs – in the back of the House with nothing to do. When it comes to doing nothing – that’s what Tiahrt does best.

Republican Attorney General Phill Kline – GONE!!!!!
U.S. House - District 2 - Jim Ryun –GONE!!!!

We finally dealt a devastating blow the bastard Republican Party!!!!!
Tiahrt – you may be next!

Tiahrt’s illegal signs trash Kansas scenery

Rep. Todd Tiahrt and his supporters have always behaved as if they are above the law. For years they have put many hundreds, if not thousands of Tiahrt yard signs on public right of ways, along the public side of the street and even along rail road tracks. Some people have taken it apon themselves to remove the signs since they can legally do that. Now even The Wichita Eagle, October 30, 2006, has noticed Tiahrt’s supporters disregard for the law. In one of their blogs called “What part of illegal campaign sign don’t you understand?” they said:

“As the Nov. 7 election nears, expect more violations of city yard sign rules. This past weekend, for example, campaign signs for Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, were posted illegally along several major roads in northwest Wichita — and in several of those locations, more than a dozen Tiahrt signs were posted illegally, one after another.”

Tiahrt on the Campaign trail - of well financed lies

Here’s what cost part of a $million when Rep. Todd Tiahrt campaigns against a weak candidate. When you use the office to make money and ignore your constituents, you’ve got to spend some of that campaign loot.

Effective leader?
The truth is he put all his faith in a Boeing tanker deal the sunk. He’s done nothing to alleviate joblessness in his district.

Shares our priorities?
Only if you want to see our liberties going down the drain. The patriotic act, whittles away at our rights and he supported torturing captives.

Doing the right thing?
This is aimed at the churches that ignore the huge financial contributions he takes in and uses tax-payers money on family trips to Hawaii and Europe.

Bush’s puppy is now ready to cut and run

After years of Browns nosing to President George Bush, Rep. Todd Tiahrt is now trying to distance himself from an obvious looser and buffoon. It’s a little late for that and even our own The Wichita Eagle, October 10, 2006, has pointed that out:

One television commercial for Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, recounts how he disagreed with President Bush earlier this year on the Dubai port deal. It would seem that the purpose of the commercial is either to distance Tiahrt a bit from a struggling president or to counter criticism that he is a GOP soldier who does whatever the president orders.
If it’s the former, Bush must really be radioactive if a long-term congressman from a red state who is facing a little-known opponent feels the need to separate himself from Bush. If it’s the latter, is the Dubai deal -- which was nearly universally condemned in this country -- the biggest disagreement Tiahrt can come up with?

Tiahrt’s job will cost him

Alan Bjerga is running against Rep. Todd Tiahrt in this election. With all the dirt uncovered on Tiahrt and all the flops as screw ups he’s had the last few years, the race would seem a slam-dunk for Bjerga. But Bjerga only has $2,700 so far. He also isn’t taken very serious by the Democratic Party establishment.
But there is one good side to all of this. There have been lots of commercials featuring Tiahrt, trying to claim he has done a lot for Kansas. Why is this a good thing? Because he has more than a $million in campaign contributions and now he has to spend them to keep his office. That’s less money for Tiahrt’s pocket change.
