Brownback out – Will Tiahrt slime in?

Brownback is bowing out of the Senate and it would seem like a good thing since he is such a lousy Senator. But actually he has opened the way for such slime balls as Rep. Todd Tiahrt.

According to The Wichita Eagle:

Dec. 19, 2008

“Brownback to bow out of U.S. Senate

Republican U.S. Reps. Todd Tiahrt and Jerry Moran have expressed an interest in running for the seat.

Associated Press

- Kansas Republican Sam Brownback formally announced Thursday that he will not seek a third full term in the U.S. Senate.

Brownback made his announcement at the Statehouse, saying he owed it to Kansans to keep his word and retire more than keeping seniority in the Senate.

"This is something that I need to do," he said. "I would lose a lot more and the people of Kansas would lose a lot more if I broke my word."

Brownback was elected to the Senate in 1996 to fill the unexpired term of Sen. Bob Dole, who resigned to be the GOP nominee for president. Brownback then won full, six-year terms in 1998 and 2004.

"I love doing this," he said. "Your word is your bond. Once you give it, you stand by it."

It is widely expected that Brownback, 52, will return to Kansas and run for governor in 2010. However, he declined to say Thursday what he would do after his term ended.

Brownback ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, dropping out early in the race and supporting eventual nominee John McCain.

Democrats hold the majority in the Senate with at least 57 seats to 41 Republicans. Two Independents also align themselves with Democrats. The Minnesota Senate race is still to be decided.

Reps. Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt, both Kansas Republicans, have expressed interest in giving up their House seats and running for Brownback's Senate seat in 2010. Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has been mentioned as a possible Democratic challenger.”

For Tiahrt this would mean a bigger trough to slop out of. He sells off his votes, takes his family to Europe on the taxpayer’s dime and votes the party line when there is no way to profit from his votes.

He grandstands for jobs in Wichita with his unsuccessful attempt at an aircraft “tanker deal” and votes against badly needed aid for birth control to pacify his religious right constituents.

The last thing we need it Tiahrt at the Senate trough.

Who doesn’t need a private jet to get to work?

Once again Rep. Todd Tiahrt has put his foot in his mouth trying to grandstand on the issues. He was recently defending the use of corporate jets by the overpaid CPOs that came to Washington hoping for a $7 billion handout.

Tiahrt was trying to pander to those who work in the aircraft industry. The reality is that those plains have already been paid for by those CPOs and their use has very minimal affect on the aircraft industry here in Wichita. Tiahrt is simply trying to win brownie points with the voters in his district. This attempt would be laughable if it weren’t painfully obvious to the rest of us that these industrial heads have no idea what it is like to have to live within their means. While the rest of us are struggling to make ends meet in this deep recession, captains of industry and allies such as Tiahrt, who salary alone is $100,000 a year (not counting the perks and donations he keeps), are still living it up. Their companies may be bankrupt, but as individuals they just don’t feel the sting their workers are feeling.

If Tiahrt really cared about his constituents, he would have done something about the outsourcing the aircraft industry has done to cut wages.

Sebelius stays and so does Tiahrt

Thank you Kathleen Sebelius for staying in Kansas so no one will leave the senate to take your seat and the idiot Todd Tiahrt will stay in his slimy little hole, which is more than he deserves.

Gov. Sebelius drops out of Cabinet consideration

Associated Press

- Gov. Kathleen Sebelius removed herself Saturday from consideration for a spot in President-elect Barack Obama's Cabinet, saying one reason is Kansas' budget problems.

"I believe it is important to continue my service as governor," Sebelius said in a brief statement.

Sebelius said she had asked to have her name removed from consideration, but spokeswoman Nicole Corcoran declined to provide more details. Sebelius had been mentioned most often as a potential secretary of energy, education or labor.

She also was one of four finalists for the No. 2 spot on the Democratic ticket this summer, before Obama chose Delaware Sen. Joe Biden as his vice presidential choice.

"The possibility of joining President-elect Obama's team is exciting and compelling, but my service to the citizens who elected me is my top priority in these difficult times," Sebelius said in her statement.

She also described being governor as "a job that I love," a statement she has made repeatedly in the past.
