We continue to follow the $lush

We continue to follow up with Kansas Rep. Todd Tiahrt’s slush funds. The following was taken off the site Open Secrets .org. :

2005-2006 Total Receipts: $438,512
2005-2006 Total Spent: $120,154
Cash on Hand: $929,488
Debts: $0
Date of last report: September 30, 2005
First elected: 1994
Next election: 2006

So Todd rakes it in. Like his friend Rep. Tom DeLay, the $hlush just keeps on piling up. Notice Tiahrt doesn’t seem to spend all the campaign money he takes in on his contributions. It’s great to be a Republican, they’re all getting rich.

MoveOn says: Give the money back Mr. Tiahrt!

Rep. Tom DeLay

MoveOn says: Give the money back Mr. Tiahrt!
The organization MoveOn is asking Kansas residents to call up Rep. Todd Tiahrt and ask him to give back the received $10,071 in PAC money he received from Republican Leader Tom Delay. Delay has now been indicted twice for campaign improprieties.

"TomDeLay did nothing wrong," said Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan, last May. "There is no evidence of any breaking of the House rules, no evidence of breaking any laws of the land or of the laws of Texas."

Well, Mr. Tiahrt, it doesn't look like that is true anymore. That is why you should give back your share of the money.

MoveOn has sent the following letter to its members:

Dear MoveOn member,
Yesterday a second grand jury in Texas indicted Republican Leader Tom DeLay on a new set of charges. This time it was money laundering related to a campaign finance scheme (last week's charge was conspiracy related to the same crime). DeLay's fundraising has benefited hundreds of Republican members of Congress—and they're mostly holding onto the money he raised for them even though it may be tainted. So far, only one member of Congress, Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-NH), has returned the money from Tom DeLay's PAC because he wanted to “remove any question about the nature of the contribution.”1
Your representative, Rep. Tiahrt, received $10,071 from Tom DeLay's fundraising PAC.2 Will you call Rep. Tiahrt and ask him to return the money?
Here is what you need to know to make the call.Congressman Todd TiahrtPhone: 202-225-6216

Tiahrt reacts without thinking

Todd Tiahrt has done it again, initiating ill-though out vague laws, based on a Knee-jerk reaction and just plain grandstanding. This time, according to The Wichita Eagle, Oct. 1, 2005, our representative wants to ban any U.S. veterans sentenced to life in prison from being buried in military cemeteries. This was action was in response to by Dennis Rader, the BTK serial killer.
It’s not hard to see why people don’t want Rader to be buried in a military cemetery, but Tiahrt’s bill is too vague and unnecessary. A person can get a life sentence for other things besides murder. While Rader made a career of killing people, a confused vet could make one mistake and loose his or her right to a proper burial.
With the new Patriot Act, which Tiahrt whole-heartedly supports, a person could serve a life-sentence without ever being charged with a crime or having a day in court.
As usual, Tiahrt’s bill is poorly thought out, which is not surprising, given that Tiahrt has a hard time thinking anything out.
