Tiahrt enters race for Senate

TOPEKA - Surrounded by constituents from his home district, U.S. Rep. Todd Tiahrt announced Saturday he is running for U.S. Senate.
"In Washington the only currency we have is our word, and too many politicians have made too many promises they didn't keep," the Goddard Republican told the 4th District delegation, many of whom waved Tiahrt signs as they cheered.
Among the supporters was Kyle Blasdel of Wichita, who sported a Tiahrt sticker.
"I was expecting it, but I was very excited and very pleased he was going to go after the seat," Blasdel said. "We need a strong conservative Republican in the seat."

Luckily for those of us who are not Tiahrt fans, polls show him far behind Rep. Jerry Moran, who will oppose him in the primary. In the editorial section, Tiahrt admitted he will have a tough battle, but said people in Kansas know he “gets things done.” But what does he get done? Not his tanker deal he staked most of his career on. Maybe he was referring to his ability to take his family on vacations to Hawaii and Europe at the tax payer’s expense.
The big question is whether he can bamboozle the rest of Kansas or will those outside of the 4th District see through him?
